2015 was a big year for Bad Dragon! Our promotions encompassed a whole new world of ideas (from a dinosaur packed island all the way to the wasteland), we added a fantastic array of new creations to our lineup, and had an even larger selection of special colors available for purchase.
A few old friends visited us, like Slasher Silver, our Valentine’s Day colors, and our Halloween colors, which are all well-loved by our awesome customers. We took some fun new spins on our holiday classics by adding Cherry Kisses (a special Valentine’s colors for select penetrable toys), a new set of colors for Saint Patrick’s Day (based on the holiday colors of green and gold), and some brand-new winter colors (in mixes of green, red, bronze, silver, and blue).
Duke had no idea what Cyber Monday was, but we advised him it was all about the 80s. As a result, we had discounted colors for Cyber Monday that marbled together black with the primary colors of light (red, green, and blue) for a “retro electronic” feel.
It was the first time we ever had monthly birthstone colors! Alexandrite and Opal were huge hits, and we finished out the last birthstone month with Turquoise, which was incredibly popular. Overall, you guys gave these colors a wonderful reception, and it was really fun for us to see how excited everyone got for each month’s new color.
On top of our holiday colors and monthly colors, we had colors inspired by the box office. Hydrogenous Zone joined us for a limited time based on a particular swirly planet in a rising sci-fi movie (that strangely lacked the planet as a setting). BaNAna unleashed our inner silliness with comical blue overalls, and googly eyes with every purchase. Furry Road blazed a trail towards our Dragontech wasteland promotion (I think we all lost about a week of our lives to that one). And Bright Blade colors lit up our galaxy battles with their fun glow in the dark add-in.
There were also very spontaneous colors that no one really expected. Left Shark had us all laughing so hard we cried (my PC almost melted from the sheer amount of shark it experienced), Janine’s dress sparked heated discussion on the perception of color, Full Spectrum was a celebration of a proud step forward for America, and Meteor Impact was the smashing winner of a community-engagement color vote.
It really motivates us to see when folks are excited for promotions and color options, and this year there was certainly no shortage of awesome customers that were enthusiastic about what we came up with. We have some fun stuff planned for this year, so keep your eyes peeled for new things on the horizon!
