Some of you likely saw our recent “New challenger: the LAST FANTASY” color voting event that popped up on various forms of social media. Not everyone made the connection between the promotional colors and a few recent gaming announcements, so I wanted to take a little bit of time today to talk about this random encounter.
(Just pretend the blog post is dissolving and we’re taking our battle stances, okay? Someone key the dramatic fight song.)
If you’re not on the same page yet, I’ll fill you in: some new characters were announced for Super Smash Bros., one of which is from a favorite long-running series of mine. I love me some Legend of Zelda, but this time around, I’m talking about Final Fantasy! I’ve been playing the games for just about as long as I can remember, and it’s been really cool to see them evolve over the years. With Cloud coming to Smash Bros. as a new fighter, a few of us around the shop were pretty excited. (Read: there were high-pitched squeaking noises.)
What made it even more awesome is the barrage of Final Fantasy related things that have been popping up lately. Not only is a new challenger approaching in one of our favorite games, but Final Fantasy Explorers is getting an awesome collector’s edition that features bonus items from the series throughout the years. (I was particularly @[email protected] over the Thyrus staff, which is the ultimate weapon of the White Mage class in Final Fantasy XIV!) Additionally, Final Fantasy XIV just received its first major patch after the Heavensward Expansion, and Final Fantasy XI received its final expansion pack that wraps up story of the epic MMO that’s been running since 2002. All of the news got me incredibly excited, and I wanted to share that with all of you.
I wanted to do something fun and special to celebrate all of these cool things. I teleported to consult with our amazing Cocksmiths here at Bad Dragon, we fired up the dickforges, and bam! I chose a mix of colors across the board that drew on the history and lore of the game series to create a fun homage to games that are special to a lot of us. Is it a little weird to invent dildo colors in honor of a video game series? Maybe – but that’s never stopped us before! ; )
Buster Blade is a cold, metallic steel blue reminiscent of an iconic weapon wielded by a spiky-haired hero. Celestial Light represents the purity of healing magic and the struggle of good over evil with its pure pearlescent white. And Meteor Impact stands as a smoldering reminder of the darkness all of us struggle against.
I wanted to make this fun and engaging for people, so instead of all three colors being launched, we opted to let the community choose which color was their favorite. Right now, Meteor Impact is strongly in the lead, but it’s entirely possible this will change by the time voting is over!
If you haven’t yet cast your vote for your favorite color, make sure to do so on our forums! May the best fighter win, and I genuinely hope that you enjoyed learning a little bit about the idea behind the event.
